How green is your state?July 19, 2013: 11:27 AM ET
What's the greenest state? Kansas.
Yes, Kansas. And it's largely due to all that wind power rolling off the plains.
That's according to this recent green ranking of states from MPHOline.org, a website that provides information on a variety of public health topics.
Ranking "greenness" is an inherently difficult task. Graphic creators Infographicworld used figures from the green product rating site GoodGuide for air and water quality data, info from Wikipedia on the number of mass transit systems in each state, and state agencies for information on the other categories.
Washington, D.C., took the top spot for transit systems and air quality, while Delaware won for lowest gasoline usage and carbon dioxide emissions. Alaska has the cleanest water, and Californians recycle the most.
Texas was ranked the least green state overall.
